This week I realized I wasn’t trying to solve a branding problem.
I was trying to solve a dharma problem.
I found myself sitting inside a fork that looked familiar on the surface, but felt much deeper in my body.
On one side was Signal Dojo, a practical lane rooted in my startup, product, and operator background. It felt clearer, more legible, and closer to traction and financial stability.
On the other side was Good Soul, the deeper field. Philosophy. Consciousness. Cosmology. Discernment. What it means to live in alignment with what is real.
And somewhere deeper still was The Shape of Waking, which feels less like a project and more like a fire.
At first, I thought I was trying to answer a business question. But I wasn’t.
I was trying to answer a much older question:
What is the right thing to lead with in this season of my life?
That is a different question. And a much more honest one.
The Fork in the Road
At first, the dilemma seemed simple:
Do I follow the work that feels most alive?
Or
Do I follow the work that seems most practical?
But the more I sat with it, the more I realized this framing was too shallow.
Because life does not always ask us to choose between:
the true thing
and the false thing
Sometimes life asks us to choose between:
the thing that feels most alive
and the thing that is most wise to lead with right now
That is a much more subtle fork.
And if we are not careful, we can confuse:
excitement with alignment
practicality with betrayal
urgency with truth
That is where discernment becomes everything.
You may not be choosing between two brands.
But you may be standing at a similar fork.
Between what feels alive and what feels wise.
Between what calls you and what sustains you.
Between the work you can do and the work you feel here to serve.
Preya and Shreya
A concept that came back to me this week was the distinction between Preya and Shreya.
In simple terms, Preya is what is immediately pleasant. It is comforting, soothing, and rewarding in the short term.
Shreya is what is ultimately beneficial. It is wiser, more aligned, and more life-giving over time.
At first glance, this can sound like a simple morality tale. Pleasure bad. Discipline good.
But that’s not actually the wisdom here.
Because sometimes what is exciting and soulful is not automatically Shreya. And sometimes what is practical and unglamorous is not automatically Preya.
Sometimes the deeper question is:
What is the right order of things?
That was the question I actually needed to answer.
Not:
Which path is more “me”?
Which one sounds more noble?
Which one feels more spiritually pure?
But:
What arrangement of my gifts creates the most integrity, sustainability, and service right now?
That is a much better question.
The Process: 99% Confidence, Not 99% Certainty
So I did something I’ve come to trust more and more:
I used AI as a mirror.
Not to tell me who I am. Not to make the decision for me. But to help me listen more carefully to what was already there.
And the process was surprisingly simple.
Not easy. But simple.
We asked questions one at a time.
Not:
“What should my business model be?”
“Which brand has more upside?”
“What’s the perfect strategy?”
Instead, the questions were closer to:
Which path feels truer in your body?
Which work would you still be relieved to have given your life to?
Which lane feels like a skill, and which feels like a calling?
Which move feels like wise sequencing, and which feels like self-betrayal?
The goal was not certainty. It was not to eliminate all ambiguity.
It was to arrive at:
99% confidence
That phrase matters to me.
Because certainty is often a fantasy, especially when you are standing at the edge of something alive.
But confidence is different.
Confidence is what remains when enough signal accumulates that you can move without needing reality to become frictionless first.
That’s what I was looking for. Not a guarantee. Just enough truth to move cleanly.
What Became Clear
What became clear was this:
Good Soul is the temple.
It is the deepest field. The philosophy. The cosmology. The dharma. The work I am actually building toward.
Signal Dojo is the bridge.
It is the practical lane. The applied arm. The near-term vehicle. The thing that can create traction, income, and reality contact in this chapter.
And The Shape of Waking is the fire I need to protect along the way.
That was the breakthrough.
I did not have a brand split.
I had a time-horizon split.
That changed everything.
Because once I saw that, the question was no longer:
Which one do I choose forever?
It became:
What should lead in this season, and what must be protected inside it?
That is a much wiser question.
From there, one sentence landed with force:
Build the bridge without abandoning the temple.
That is the work.
Not just for business. Not just for creativity. For life.
Why This Matters Beyond Work
I think a lot of people are quietly standing at some version of this fork.
Maybe not between two brands. Maybe not between philosophy and product.
But between:
what is practical
and what is sacred
Between:
what pays the bills
and what keeps them alive
Between:
the role they know how to perform
and the deeper work they suspect they are here to serve
If you’ve ever felt the tension between survival and truth, between momentum and meaning, you already know this fork.
The mistake is not choosing the practical thing.
The mistake is letting the practical thing become your whole identity.
The mistake is forgetting what the bridge is for.
A bridge is not the destination. It is what helps you cross toward what matters.
That distinction matters more than most people realize.
If You’re at Your Own Fork
If you’re standing at a threshold right now, here are a few questions worth asking:
What is the deepest thing, even if it is not the thing I should lead with first?
What is the wisest move for this season, not just the most exciting one?
What am I afraid will disappear if I choose practicality?
What needs to be structurally protected so it does not get swallowed by urgency?
Am I trying to solve my whole life, or just discern the right order for this chapter?
Sometimes that is enough.
Sometimes you do not need the final answer.
Sometimes you just need:
enough signal to move without betraying what matters most
That is often how the path clarifies.
Not all at once.
But in right order.
For me, the sentence I’m carrying forward is this:
Signal Dojo is the vehicle.
Good Soul is the destination.
The Shape of Waking is the fire I protect along the way.
That feels true enough to walk with.
And right now, that is enough.
Bonus: Want to go through this process yourself?
I turned the structure behind this reflection into a reusable AI prompt.
It’s designed to help you move toward 99% confidence, not 99% certainty, by asking one question at a time and stopping once enough signal has accumulated.
If you’re standing at your own meaningful fork in the road, you can use it here:
Use the Build the Bridge Discernment Prompt
Use it when you need help finding the cleanest next right order.
